APPLICATION PROCESS & INFORMATION:
Thank-you for your interest in the Brighton
Area Fire Department. The following information is being provided to you
as a result of your request for an application for hire by this department.
All applicants will be considered regardless of
race, religion, creed, gender, national origin, age, disability, marital or
veteran status, sexual orientation, or any other legally protected status.
As a potential applicant to the Brighton Area
Fire Department, you should be aware of the hiring requirements and process
for this organization. Applicants must have earned, at a minimum, a High
School Diploma, or its equivalent in order to be considered for employment.
All applications must be picked up in person, during normal business hours, at
the department’s administrative office or maybe printed off the website. Each person will be required to
sign the cover sheet of this document. This copy will then be placed in
the active applicant file to begin your application process.
The Brighton Area Fire Department has also recognized the
Conference of Western Wayne’s Firefighter Testing Program as a minimum
requirement for all firefighter applicants. All candidates applying for the
position of firefighter with this department are required to successfully pass
a written and physical agility test, which is offered through the Conference
of Western Wayne and administered by Schoolcraft College. This
testing is done on a monthly basis. The cost of this testing (one time
only) will be incurred by this department, therefore all associated test
results shall be the property of this department.
Further information regarding this program and registering for it will be
provided to you during your interview process.
Once your completed application form has been
received, a criminal history check and review of your driver’s license history
will be done. If all information is deemed acceptable, you will then be
notified regarding scheduling your first interview. After successfully
passing the first interview, you will then be scheduled for a second
interview. Upon successfully passing the second interview, you will then
be scheduled for your agility test. Proof of successful
completion of this test must be received by this department before any further
consideration for hire can be given. Upon receipt of your test
results and having successfully passed the test, you will then be contacted to
schedule your medical physical exam. Once your results have been
received for your medical physical exam, a thorough review of your information
will then be completed. If at this time all information is deemed
acceptable, you will be notified of the next step in the process.
Falsification of, missed steps, or incompletion of or during
any portion of this process, can and may lead to your application not being
accepted and this process being terminated.
If there is any information found unacceptable to
this department, you will be notified of this and advised of any issues or
concerns and also of any next steps, if applicable. If at any time
during this process your application is found to not meet the requirements of
this department, you will also be notified. The attached flow chart
shows each of the steps of the application process and the next steps
dependant on pass / fail of the previous one.
