Fire Marshal Division

Like most Fire Marshal Divisions in the United States the Fire Marshal Division of the Brighton Area Fire Department is charged with fire prevention code enforcement as well as fire investigation to determine origin and cause.  The Brighton Area Fire Marshal Division is responsible for this enforcement in three communities within our response district including, City of Brighton, Charter Township of Brighton, and Genoa Township.

The primary goal of the Brighton Area Fire Marshal Division is to work with local building and planning departments as well as selected contractors during the planning and construction stages of commercial/industrial, manufacturing and retail facilities to ensure that new buildings provide a safe environment for employees, customers and material/merchandise suppliers upon completion of construction.

Fire code enforcement is the primary responsibility of the Brighton Area Fire Marshal Division and one that is taken very seriously as the safety of our citizens and area visitors alike depend on it if our community is to grow and prosper.  For these reasons, fire code inspections of commercial/industrial, manufacturing and retail businesses are conducted year round by two full-time fire inspectors.

The Brighton Area Fire Marshal Division has also worked with several residential builders and contractors during the design, development and construction phase for new homes being built in our community in an effort to better meet the needs of homeowners and at the same time keep fire safety at the forefront of building construction in our community.

In addition to fire code enforcement, the Brighton Area Fire Marshal Division is responsible for fire investigations within our fire district.  Every confirmed fire within our fire district is investigated for origin and cause of fire, either by a paid-on-call fire officer on the scene or the Fire Marshal Division staff.

Residents in our community that would like to receive information on home fire safety, smoke alarms, station tours, etc. are encouraged to contact us.  Our inspectors and staff encourage residents to check their smoke alarms monthly and ask that they have an exit plan in place for their family.
